
Wildcats Capture First A-10 Win of Season in Five Sets

KINGSTON, RI – Behind a season-high ten service aces, Davidson won a five-set marathon against Rhode Island on the road. Four Wildcats recorded ten or more kills each. Freshman Ellie Ocampo posted a career-high ten kills and a career-high four service aces. Emma Slusser logged a season-high 14 kills. Slusser's presence at the net has also been big recently. The senior has nine total blocks over the last two matches.
The first three sets featured a combined 29 ties and ten lead changes. After the Rams fought off three set points in the opening set, the Wildcats bounced back and won 27-25. The second set was tied at 18-18 and Rhode Island won seven of the next nine points to claim the frame.
Ellie Ocampo provided a major spark in the third set. With the score tied at 17-17, the freshman posted three straight kills. Ocampo's final kill in the frame closed out the set 26-24.
After Davidson dropped the fourth set 25-18, the team responded and captured its first five-set victory of the season. The Wildcats beat the Rams 15-13 in the last frame.
Ariyana Johnson and Elena Garcia-Guerrios were the other two scholar-athletes with ten or more kills. Johnson had a .300 hitting percentage with 20 total attacks. Ngodoo Hariss also delivered in an efficient way with four kills on six attempts.
Jordan Hummel added 21 digs, eight assists, and two service aces. Hummel has posted 20 or more digs in four matches this season.
