
'Cats Defeat Rhode Island in Straight Sets

KINGSTON, RI – Davidson collected its second conference win of the season with a straight-set victory at Rhode Island on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats beat the Rams 26-24, 25-20, and then 25-16.
Davidson trailed 24-19 in the first frame, fought off four straight Rhode Island set points, and then won the next two points to take the set. The 7-0 run to close out the first set was highlighted by three kills and a solo block from Elena Garcia-Guerrios.
The Wildcats finished the second set strong as well. With the score tied 18-18, Davidson won seven of the final nine points to claim the set.
Emma Slusser capped on an impressive weekend with four kills in the third set. Davidson led wire-to-wire in this frame. The 25-16 win is tied for the second-largest margin of victory in a set by the Wildcats this season.
Slusser finished the match with nine kills, only one error, and a .615 hitting percentage. The senior had 24 kills, eight digs, and four blocks in two matches this weekend against Rhode Island.
Ellie Ocampo nearly notched her first career double-double. The freshman had eight kills and nine digs. Elena Garcia-Guerrios finished the match with a team-high 12 kills. Mia Compas and Ariyana Johnson contributed with five kills each.
