'Cats Host Richmond in Key A-10 Contest

DAVIDSON - Winners of its last six games, the Davidson College women's basketball team has found its stride and will look to continue its winning ways when it hosts Richmond in a key Atlantic 10 battle 3 p.m. Sunday inside John M. Belk Arena.

SERIES HISTORY...
Richmond claims a slight 8-5 lead in the all-time series with Davidson dating back to the 2013-14 season. The 'Cats and Spiders have split the last four meetings 2-2 with Richmond claiming the two most recent victories.
A season ago, league-leading Richmond held off Davidson 59-54 on Jan. 17, 2024 inside John M. Belk Arena. Elle Sutphin was the lone Davidson player in double figures with 15 points. Three others added nine each, including Issy Morgan, who also contributed eight rebounds, three assists and three steals. Millie Prior had nine points and 12 boards.

LAST TIME OUT...
Issy Morgan scored a game-high 19 points as Davidson ran its winning streak to six straight with a 65-55 victory over Rhode Island Wednesday evening inside John M. Belk Arena.
Off to their best start in A-10 play since the 2019-20 campaign, the Wildcats improve to 9-7 overall and 4-0 in the conference.
Kyra Bruyndoncx joined Morgan double figures with 10 points for the 'Cats, who torched the nets from long range for the second time in as many games going 8-for-16.
Candice Lienafa converted on a pair of made 3-pointers in the opening 10 minutes to go along with nine points.
PG 1...
Starting point guard, Morgan keeps adding to her impressive resume as of late, posting double-figure scoring performances in six of the last seven contests, including a three 20-point efforts on the year against Wofford, NC State and Saint Louis.
Additionally, the senior guard has shot well in conference action with a .514 percentage from the floor over those four contests, highlighted by a 5-of-8 effort against the Billikens and most recently 7-of-12 performance versus Rhode Island. Morgan has also proved her efforts from 3-point range making 10 threes over the last six contests.
DEFENDING THE DEEP THREAT...
Along with leading the conference in opponent 3-point percentage (.247), the Wildcats also rank 13th in all of NCAA DI institutions in 3-point percentage defense as well.
So far this season, the 'Cats have only allowed its competition to make double figure 3-pointers in just one contest. On 12 instances over 16 games, Davidson has limited its opponents to less than five made triples including two games of holding its opposition scoreless beyond the arc.
In league action alone, competitors are shooting just .169 (11-of-65) when facing the Wildcats.
CONFERENCE CONTENDERS...
The Wildcats have put up impressive numbers over three conference games so far headlined by outscoring its league competitors by a +74 margin (313-239).
As a team, Davidson is averaging 78.3 points and 39.8 rebounds per game while shooting .464 from the field, .422 from 3-point range and .733 at the foul line in conference games. The Wildcats have also averaged an impressive 14.0 assists, 6.3 steals and 3.3 blocks over those four contests.
Pacing the scoring for the 'Cats in conference play is Donovan (14.0), Morgan (14.0), Dunn (13.3) Lienafa (11.3) and Bruyndoncx (11.3). Additionally all five double-figure scorers have made over 40 percent of their shot attempts in Lienafa (.600), Bruyndoncx (.550), Morgan (.514), Donovan (.457) and Dunn (.424).
Lastly, Donovan (7-of-14), Bruyndoncx (9-of-17) and Haines (8-of-15) have shot the ball well from 3-point range in A-10 action.
NO PLACE LIKE HOME...
Davidson has been at its best this season when playing in the confines of John M. Belk Arena, currently sitting at an undefeated 7-0 home record, just one win away from matching the undefeated at home streak from one season ago.
All told, the 'Cats are outscoring its opponents by an outstanding +139 overall margin including a +19.9 margin per game. The Wildcats are scoring .486 percent from the field, .403 percent beyond the arc and .704 percent at the charity stripe on Bob McKillop court this season.
Donovan (12.3 ppg) and Morgan (12.0) pace the offense while Donovan (5.4 rpg) and Prior (5.0 rpg) lead the defense on their home court.

Reigning A-10 Player of the Week Maggie Doogan is coming off the heels of leading the Spiders to a thrilling 88-86 victory with a 37-point showing Wednesday. Doogan is averaging 15.8 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 3.3 apg and 1.1 spg for Richmond. Joining Doogan is Rachel Ullstrom with a roster-high 16.1 ppg to go along with 5.8 rpg and 1.8 spg.
As a team, the Spiders are tallying 73.2 points and 34.8 rebounds per game as well as shooting .499 from the field, .391 from 3-point range and .753 at the foul line.
