Wildcats Edged by Mountaineers

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Despite four close sets, the Davidson Wildcats fell 3-1 to Appalachian State during game one of the Wake Forest Invitational on Saturday.
The loss moves the 'Cats to 4-6 overall, while App improves to 6-5.
Isabel Decker led Davidson with her seventh double-double of the season (15 kills, 11 digs), while adding three service aces to the stat sheet. Junior libero Jordan Hummel served three aces of her own and picked up a team-high 13 digs.
After falling 25-18 and 25-21 in the first two sets, respectively, the Wildcats bounced back in the third, thanks to five kills apiece from Decker and Anna Withee. With the frame tied 22-all, freshman middle blocker Cayla Weisner produced a kill from one of Xuan Nguyen's 28 assists, followed by a Hummel ace and a Withee kill to steal the third set 25-22.
The Mountaineers stormed back in the fourth to defeat the 'Cats 25-15 and clinch the 3-1 match after striking 14 kills on 28 attempts for an impressive .500 attacking percentage.
Overall, Withee finished with 14 kills, and freshman setter Kinsey Smith ended with 18 assists.
