'Cats Fall to Wake Forest in Five

WINSTON SALEM, N.C. -- The Wildcats came up just short in a five-set loss to Wake Forest University on Sunday afternoon.
As a team, the 'Cats served an impressive eight aces, led by four alone from Elena Garcia-Guerrios. Isabel Decker contributed a team-best 17 kills and Jordan Hummel led the defense with 21 digs.
A back-and-forth fifth set shifted when both teams exchanged challenges. After a long stoppage, the 'Cats were unable to rally as Wake Forest closed out the game with four-straight points to win 15-10.
Davidson started the game strong, hitting .333 at the net, going on a 5-0 run to start and later a 10-2 run to win the first, 25-16.
After dropping set two 25-21, the Wildcats' attack bounced back and swung .261 in the third frame and held off the Deacs to a 25-22 win.
The 'Cats battled in the fourth with back-to-back kills by Cayla Weisner, but the Demon Deacons forced a fifth and final set before securing the win.
Garcia-Guerrios finished with a double-double (14 kills, 14 digs) and Kinsey Smith had 30 assists. Xuan Ngyuen added 20 assists to lead the Wildcats to a .231 attacking percentage on the day.
