LEXINGTON, Ky. – Junior Jayden Smith advanced to the quarterfinal round of the 110-meter hurdles at the NCAA East Regional on Wednesday evening. He clocked the tenth-fastest time out of the field with a 13.72.
The Richmond, Va. native laced it up in the third heat in his third straight appearance at NCAA's and wasted no time moving into the next round. Smith finished second in his race with a 13.72 (+1.2) edging NC AT&T's Jason Holmes at the finish line by .006 seconds. It went down as the third-fastest time for the St. Christopher's product and the Wildcat program. The feat also came after track events were moved up an hour from 6:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. due to impending weather.
Quarterfinal action consists of a three-heat field that will take to the blocks at 6:15 p.m. ET. A three-time A-10 Champion, Smith will run in lane four of the second heat.
Friday Set-Up
- Senior Jack Stajos starts the day for Davidson in the discus. The senior out of Charlotte will throw in the first flight at 1:00 p.m. ET
- Junior Grahm Breiter opens track action as the first 'Cat to run the 3,000-meter steeplechase at a regional. Scheduled start is 5:40 p.m. ET
