WASHINGTON — After helping Davidson to a weekend series win over Richmond, Wildcats Wilson Perkins and Eli Putnam are Atlantic 10 Conference weekly honorees.
Perkins is A-10 Pitcher of the Week, while Putnam is A-10 Player of the Week.
The honors are their first.
"Perk and Put were huge for us this weekend and have been mainstays throughout the season," said Davidson coach Rucker Taylor. "Perk gave us an incredible start Friday and saved our bullpen on a short weekend when we were without some guys. Put was big throughout the week and probably had the most important hit of the weekend in Game 3. That carried us on a day we needed someone to step up."
In Friday's 6-1 win over the Spiders, Perkins threw the Wildcats' first complete game in almost two years. The redshirt-sophomore from Niceville, Fla., scattered nine hits, allowed one earned run and struck out seven. He recorded 1-2-3 innings in the second and fourth and didn't allow a runner past second base after the first.
Putnam, a junior first baseman from Cabin John, Md., hit .625 (10-for-16) with a 2.042 OPS in the 2-2 week. He slugged 1.375 with three doubles, three home runs, seven RBIs and six runs and had multiple hits in all four games, including going 4-for-4 in the second game against Richmond. His three-run home run in Saturday's season finale highlighted the Wildcats' 4-3 series-clinching win over the Spiders.
Five Wildcats have now earned A-10 weekly honors this season, also including Rookie of the Week selections Cooper Cavanaugh (Feb. 20) and Jed Howard (Feb. 27) and Player of the Week pick Michael O'Shaughnessy (April 2).
Perkins, Putnam and the Wildcats will host N.C. A&T Tuesday night at Wilson Field.
