CHARLOTTE, N.C. – In addition to Anne Berquist setting a new personal best in the 1500 meters, Davidson sprinters Sophia Hood and Aleia Gisolfi-McCready recorded Top-5 finishes to highlight day one of competition for the Wildcats at the 49er Classic.
A junior from Barrington, Ill. / Charlotte, N.C., Berquist finished 11th out of 109 competitors with a time of 4:37.52, almost nine seconds faster than her previous record, set at last year's conference meet.
Davidson's Katie Deacon (4:51.61) and Elise Boyse (4:56.09) also set new PRs in the event.
Hood recorded the top finish of the day for the Wildcats, placing second in the 400 meters, running a 57.03.
Gisolfi-McCready, who set a new school record in the 60-meter hurdles at last month's A-10 Indoor Championships, just missed breaking the program's standard in the 100 meter hurdles this afternoon with a 14.44. The junior two-sport athlete (women's soccer) also finished fifth (57.82) in the 400 just behind Hood.
The three-day event will conclude Saturday with events scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
