2/3/2024 7:30:00 PM | Men's Track & Field
LYNCHBURG, Va. – Seven Wildcats turned in top-five finishes at the Liberty Open in Lynchburg, Va. on Saturday afternoon. The day was highlighted by first-place performances from Jayden Smith in the 60-meter hurdles and Josh Hardin in the 400-meter dash.
Senior Josh Hardin recorded his second-fastest indoor time in the 400-meters and took first place after racing across the line in 48.16 seconds. This time ranks him second in the Atlantic 10. The 2022 Atlantic 10 Indoor 400-meter champion also shaved over half a second off his previous mark of 48.79 which he set two weekends ago at the Carolina Challenge.
Junior Jayden Smith continued his dominating run in the 60-meter hurdles while also turning in a solid performance in the 200-meter dash. The Richmond, Va. native ran a season-best 7.73 in the 60H finals to capture his third top finish of the year. His newest time ranks inside the top-20 nationally ahead of today's competition. Smith also finished fourth in the 200 after sprinting to the line in 21.84 seconds. This mark was Smith's indoor career-best and is the second fastest in the conference.
Also in the 60-meter hurdles, senior Isaac Bynum tied a career-best time by running a 8.01 in the finals which was good for third place. This time puts Bynum in second behind Smith on the A-10 performance list.
Three other Wildcats earned top-five finishes on the day. Junior Jack Muldoon took second in the 800-meters after he stopped the clock with an indoor-best time of 1:52.53. Muldoon built off his top finish two weeks ago with a new personal-indoor-best, and Saturday's mark keeps the Severna Park, Md. native firmly inside the top-10 in the A-10. Junior Kenny Eheman finished third in the mile after finishing his four laps in 4:13.77, and sophomore Ryan Harris earned fifth place in the 800 behind Muldoon with a time of 1:55.23.
