VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Aleia Gisolfi-McCready's new school-record and a runner-up finish for Megan Burkholder, highlighted day one of competition for the Davidson women's indoor track & field team at the 2024 Atlantic 10 Championships Friday inside the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
Gisolfi-McCready, could not have scripted a better start for the Wildcats on the track side, as the two-sport athlete (women's soccer) ran a school-record 8.79 in the 60m hurdles to qualify for Saturday's finals.
Davidson, which sits seventh as a team after day one, got its first points from pole vaulters Burkholder and freshman Grace Zagoria. Burkholder, who finished tied with the highest mark of the morning, came in second with a height of 12' 4 ¼", just missing her program standard.
In addition, Zagoria contributed four points to the 'Cats' total with her first-ever jump over 12 feet, to place fourth out of 14 competitors.
Like Burkholder, Hannah Casey recorded a podium finish for Davidson as the sophomore came home third in the pentathlon with a personal-record 3,283 points.
Freshmen Jocelyn Millican and Isabella Godoy also advanced to the finals in their respective events. Millican posted a time of 1:16.69 in the 500 meters, while Godoy shattered her previous best in the 1,000 meters with a 2:52.51.
The final day of competition will begin tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
