SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Senior Graham Breiter ran his second-fastest career 8K at the USC Upstate Invite to lead Davidson to a fifth place finish out of 18 teams on Saturday morning.
For the second consecutive outing, Breiter, a California native, completed the 8K course in the mid 24's after he crossed the line in 24:37.2. It was good enough to finish ninth out of a 100-man field, and it was just five seconds off his career-best which he posted at ECU two weekends ago.
Freshman Alex Thole was the next man across after he finished the race in a personal-best time of 25:09.5. That time was good for 23rd overall.
The event's top time came from Ryan Smith, who raced unattached, at 24:16.0, and Jacksonville State recorded the lowest team score with 55 points.

The cross country team will next set their sights on the Atlantic 10 Championships which will be held in Mechanicsville, Va. on November 2.
