Deacon’s 1000m Win Highlights Day One at Carolina Challenge

COLUMBIA, S.C. – After nearly two months away from competition, the Davidson women's indoor track & field team returned to action Friday at the Carolina Challenge hosted by the University of South Carolina.
 
The two-day meet will conclude tomorrow with events beginning at 11 a.m. Live results will be available at AdkinsTrack.com.
 
Davidson, which was last in action Dec. 2, set multiple personal records on day one of the annual event, highlighted by freshman Katie Deacon's first-place finish in the 1000m with a time of 3:02.63.
 
Sprinter Aleia Gisolfi-McCready put together solid performances in the 60m hurdles (9.30) and 200m (25.65), while first-year vaulters Grace Zagoria and Cameron Unice cleared 11-04.5 (3.47m).
 
Hannah Casey competed in three events Friday, including the long jump, where she recorded a mark of 17-07.5 (5.37m).
 
In addition to the Wildcats and host Gamecocks, Belmont Abbey, Benedict, Charlotte, The Citadel, Claflin, Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston, Columbia International, Converse, Coppin State, Florida A&M, Furman, Georgia State, Lander, Limestone, North Greenville, SCAD Savannah, South Carolina, UNC Asheville, UNC Pembroke, Wingate and Winthrop are competing inside the Carolina Indoor Track & Field Complex.
 
Up Next
Davidson will take part in the Camel City Invite (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and Terrier Classic (Boston, Mass.) next weekend.
