DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson volleyball continues its six-match homestand this weekend, as the Wildcats play host to George Washington to kick off the start of Atlantic 10 league play.
The 'Cats will meet the Revolutionaries on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 12 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 24 at 1 p.m. Both contests will have live stats available at davidsonwildcats.com, and Saturday's match will air on ESPN+.
'TIL NOW… The Wildcats have started off the season with a 8-2 record, falling only to three-time Big South Champions High Point University and Wake Forest University. It's the best start to a season for any Davidson volleyball team since the 'Cats won 10-straight to begin the 1990 campaign.
CONFERENCE SPLASH… Bella Brady, Mia Compas and Elena Garcia-Guerrios have earned Atlantic 10 Conference nods in the early season, as Brady was named Defensive Player of the Week on September 5, and a week later Compas earned Rookie of the Week rights. Last week, Garcia-Guerrios was named Co-Player of the Week, shared with Dayton's Alayna Yates, after recording 30 kills and a pair of double-doubles during a 1-1 weekend with App State and Wake Forest.
AROUND THE HORN… As a team, Davidson ranks 13th nationally, and first in the A-10, in kills per set 14.16. The 'Cats also sit 16th in the nation with 13.05 assists per set, while Bella Brady ranks individually at 23rd with 4.92 digs per set.
ABOUT THE REVS… The Colonials are off to a 3-8 start in non-conference play, picking up wins over Old Dominion, Georgetown and Norfolk State in the early season. Led by Sydney Stewart's .358 attack percentage, George Washington averages 11.5 kills per set and 2.04 blocks per set. The Revolutionaries' Kelsey Watkins ranks second in the Atlantic 10 with 1.00 blocks per set.
LOOKING AHEAD… Davidson's third-straight home weekend will conclude next week when the Wildcats host reigning A-10 Champions Loyola Chicago inside Belk Arena on Sept. 29 & 30.
