BOILING SPRINGS — Davidson scored two goals in a 10-minute span Thursday night en route to a 2-0 win in the season opener and head coach Riley Piechnick's debut.
And the goals came from two of the Wildcats' top scorers from a year ago: Riley Patton and Aleia Gisolfi-McCready.
"Today was a strong start to our season," said Piechnick. "We've been putting a lot of emphasis on set pieces and finding our forwards on the run, so it was exciting to score this way on two early opportunities and get the shutout. It was a total-team effort from back to front, and I thought we showed we have a lot of depth this year. I'm looking forward to continuing to build with this group!"
Patton, who scored two goals last season, struck from the left side in the 14th minute to open the scoring. Then it was Gisolfi-McCready's turn, and last year's top Wildcat scorer (4 goals) showed her skill in the open field with another finish from the left.
The Wildcats finished with advantages in shots (9-4) and corner kicks (8-4), and Gisolfi-McCready had a game-high three shots-on-goal.
Keeper Emily Smith made three saves to notch the shutout.
