Davidson pitcher Will Schomberg has signed with the Seattle Mariners as an undrafted free agent.
The right-hander from Forsyth County, who graduated in May, served as the Wildcats' Friday starter this spring and earned Atlantic 10 Conference First Team honors.
"We're so happy for Schomby and this next step he's taking," said coach Rucker Taylor. "Will has progressed each season, and his senior year was exceptional. His journey has been fun to watch, and we're ecstatic his next pitch will be as a professional."
He is the third Wildcat to link up with a professional organization this summer, joining Michael Carico and Ryan Wilson, who were drafted by the Chicago Cubs and San Diego Padres, respectively.
As a senior, Schomberg posted a 7-2 record with a 3.97 ERA and 68 strikeouts in 65.2 innings. He held opposing hitters to a .217 batting average, posted a 1.25 WHIP and held the opposition to 7.40 hits per nine innings.
Schomberg finished his career averaging 10.15 strikeouts per nine innings, a mark that ranks second in program history.
Upon graduation, Schomberg had initially planned to play a graduate year at Wake Forest.
