DAVIDSON, N.C. – The NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Committee announced the participants for the East Preliminaries on Thursday, and a record six Wildcats were selected: Jayden Smith, Jordan Benson, Bryce Anthony, Josh Hardin, Joe dosReis, and Charlie Siebert.
Preliminaries will begin next Wednesday evening at North Florida's Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla. A full schedule of events can be found here.
Davidson's dynamic duo in the 110-meter hurdles will showcase their talents next Wednesday. Smith enters the first round of postseason competition with the fifth fastest time in the East Region and is tied for eighth in the nation. Smith's qualifying time of 13.42 seconds at last weekend's A-10 Championships broke the meet, facility, conference and school records. This will be Smith's second trip to the NCAA Preliminaries in as many years. Benson, a redshirt junior from Mason, Mich., will make his first career NCAA appearance with a qualifying time of 13.94 seconds after finishing fifth at the A-10 Championships.
Also returning to postseason competition is Anthony in the 400-meter hurdles. The 2022 Second Team All-American qualified for the second straight year, and enters with a qualifying mark of 51.11 seconds, which ranks 26th ahead of next week.
Hardin was the final selection in the 400-meters. Hardin's school-record time of 46.79 from the A-10 Championships was just enough to earn his first career appearance at the NCAA East Prelims.
Veteran dosReis will lace it up in the 1500-meters while making his second straight NCAA appearance. The Rhode Island product will enter competition with a qualifying mark of 3:40.52, which he set at the Virginia Challenge this past April and ranks 24th entering competition.
Rounding out the field for Davidson will be sophomore Siebert in the 10,000-meters. Siebert has made a big jump from his freshman season after he slashed almost a minute-and-a-half off his previous-best time in the 10K last season. He will enter with a qualifying time of 29:74.24, which ranks 46th.
