LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Alex Heffner and Joshua Stewart each carded rounds of two-under 70 to lead Davidson on day two of the 2023 NCAA Las Vegas Regional.
The three-day/54-hole regional hosted by UNLV is being played on the Par 72, 7,217-yard Bear's Best Las Vegas layout. Tuesday's second round took teams nearly nine hours to complete due to a three-hour delay for lightning in the area.
As a team, the Wildcats posted a two-under 286 to move to 14-under after 36 holes of play. Davidson, making its fourth NCAA Regional appearance, is currently 16 shots out of the top-5.
Heffner (66-70 = 136), the 2023 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year and individual champion, will enter tomorrow's final round tied for 14th at 8-under par. Stewart (-6) is just two strokes back of his teammate in a tie for 24th.
Brian Garrett (-1), Will Davis (+1) and Ethan Hall (+18) are also in the Davidson lineup.
No. 8 Stanford (-42) holds the top spot on the team leaderboard by four swings over conference foe No. 4 Arizona State. No. 16 Virginia (-33), No. 45 San Francisco (-31) and No. 28 Northeastern (-30) round out the Top-5.
San Francisco's Matthew Anderson and Ethan Ng of Stanford share the individual lead at 14-under par.
Six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted to determine the 30 qualifying teams and six individuals not on those qualifying teams who will compete in the finals. Thirteen teams and 10 individuals not on those teams will compete at each of three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams will advance to the finals.
The finals are May 26-31 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
