DURHAM, N.C. – Charlie Siebert broke the school record and finished in second place to pace the Davidson men's track and field team at the Duke Invitational over the weekend. In total, the Wildcats had seven top-five finishes.
Siebert, a sophomore, entered the weekend with a personal-best time of 14:22.15 in the 5,000 meters, but he smashed that mark on Friday. Siebert crossed the line in 14:01.92 to finish as the top collegiate competitor and snapped the school record which was previously set by Will Brewster back in 2016. This time puts Siebert second on the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Performance list.
The Wildcats also continued their dominance in the hurdles with a pair of first-place finishes in both the 110-meter and 400-meter event. In the 110-meter hurdles, Jayden Smith took home the top spot when he stopped the clock in 13.75 for a new outdoor-season-best. Jordan Benson finished in second place and set a new PR by running a 14.08 to beat last weeks' time by one hundredth of a millisecond. In the 400-meter hurdles, Bryce Anthony crossed the line first in 52.58 seconds, his fastest time this outdoor season.
Grahm Breiter moved into the top spot in the Atlantic 10 in the 3,000-meter steeple chase when he shaved off more time this weekend. The sophomore from California ran a personal-best time of 9:15.99 to move into first in the conference.
Owen Drometer continued to build off his solid performance last week by setting a new PR in the 1,500-meters on Saturday. Drometer crossed the finish line in 3:47.59 to move into second place in the Atlantic 10.
Davidson's lone field performer this weekend was Nick Tompkins in the high jump. Tompkins finished in third place with a clearance over 1.90 meters.
The Davidson men's track team will be off next weekend before returning to action at the Virginia Challenge and USC Open on April 21 and 22.
