KISSIMMEE, Fla. – In addition to Davidson capturing its third consecutive Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship and fourth in the last five competed, Alex Heffner finished with a 54-hole total of 10-under 206 to win individual medalist Sunday afternoon at Reunion Resort.
The three-day event was played on the 7,219-yard, Par 72 Nicklaus layout.
The Wildcats (865 | +1), who led wire-to-wire, carded a final round 300 to win by eight strokes over league-newcomer Loyola-Chicago (+9). VCU (+17) finished 16 back of Davidson, followed by George Washington (+23) and Richmond (+25).
Heffner (69-67-70 = 206 | -10), the only golfer in the field to record three straight rounds under par, became the ninth player in school history to win a conference title, and third (Jack Lang – 2017 | Mike Blasey – 2018) since the Wildcats joined the A-10 prior to the 2014 season.
To add to his already impressive playing resume, the junior from Harrisburg, N.C., was voted A-10 Player of the Year for a second straight season.
Heffner was joined on the all-conference team by sophomore Will Davis, who came home tied for fourth at 216 (68-74-74).
Playing in his final league championship, senior Brian Garrett also finished in the Top-10 for the Wildcats, placing tied for ninth at 3-over 219 (78-66-75). Ethan Hall (+11 | T-24) and Joshua Stewart (+15 | T-34) rounded out the Davidson scoring.
Along with its ninth (SoCon – 1954, 1960, 1966, 1967, 1968 | A-10 – 2018, 2021, 2022, 2023) conference crown in school history, Davidson will make its fourth NCAA Regional appearance as a team.
