KISSIMMEE, Fla. – In addition to Will Davis grabbing a share of the individual lead with an opening-round 68, Davidson carded a 284 (-4) to sit atop the 12-team leaderboard after day one of the 2023 Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship at Reunion Resort.
The three-day / 54-hole event is being played on the 7,219-yard, Par 72 Nicklaus layout.
Davis, the reigning Conference Rookie of the Year, was 5-under after 10 holes and led throughout before dropping shots on holes 16 and 17. He birdied his final hole of the day to climb back into the lead with Dayton's Ben Cors (-4).
The Wildcats' Alex Heffner is one back of his teammate following a 3-under 69. Last year's A-10 Player of the Year was just as steady, finishing with five birdies and just two bogeys.
Coming off a win in his last outing, Ethan Hall signed for an even-par 72, while Joshua Stewart and Brian Garrett shots rounds of 75 and 78, respectively.
Davidson, which has won two straight conference titles and three of the last four contested, will enter day two with a four-stroke advantage over VCU.
League-newcomer Loyola (+1) is five back followed by Rhode Island (+4) and George Washington (+5).
Tomorrow's second round will begin at 7:30 a.m. off the first and 10th tees. The Wildcats will be paired with Loyola and VCU beginning at 8:20 a.m.
