Peake Set to Wrestle in Puerto Rico; Two 'Cats Head to U.S. Open

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Freshman Tanner Peake will compete for the opportunity to become a U20 World Team contender in Puerto Rico, and two other Wildcats will compete to qualify for the U20 World Team at the U.S. Open this weekend.
This Saturday, Tanner Peake will travel to Puerto Rico and wrestle the country's top two U20 wrestlers, Wesley Frias and current national team-member Erick Martinez, in a "mini tournament". If Peake defeats both opponents in back-to-back matches (two wins against each), he will earn a spot on Puerto Rico's national team and automatically qualify to wrestle at the Pan-American Championships which will be held in Santiago, Chile this July.
If he qualifies for the Pan-Am Championships, he will then have a chance to qualify for the U20 World Championships in Romania this September by finishing third or better at the Pan-Am's.
Peake, who is of Puerto Rican descent, looks to become the first Davidson wrestler to earn a spot on a national team.
Also, a pair of 'Cats will compete at USA Wrestling's U.S. Open this Saturday and Sunday in Las Vegas, Nevada. Marc Koch and Jackson Sichelstiel will compete in the U20 freestyle within the junior division beginning at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET. This event serves as a qualifying event for the 2023 U20 World Team Trials on June 2-4th in Geneva, Ohio.
"The staff and I are very excited for the three guys competing this weekend," said head coach Nate Carr Jr. "The opportunity to compete for a world team spot is a big deal, and this experience can only help them
improve as wrestlers."
