DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Atlantic 10 Conference announced Thursday that it has awarded the A-10 Postgraduate Scholarships to 15 outstanding A-10 student-athletes, including Davidson track & field's own Rachel Horowitz.
Over the last decade, the A-10's Postgraduate Scholarship program has awarded $565,000 to 109 former student-athletes. Each of this year's 15 honorees receives $5,000 to contribute towards full-time enrollment in a postgraduate or professional program. First instituted to provide continuing education opportunities for graduating student-athletes, the program awards $75,000 in scholarship funding to former A-10 student-athletes. This marks the seventh year the Atlantic 10 has provided the scholarships to individuals from each Atlantic 10 campus.
Horowitz, a public health major, saw action the past four seasons on the Davidson track & field team. Most recently, Horowitz set the outdoor program record in the 200 meters with a time of 24.42 seconds and ran the first leg on Davidson's school-record-setting 4x100 relay team. This outdoor season, she ranks fourth in the Atlantic 10 in the 200m, seventh in the 400m, and top-20 in the 100m. During the 2022-23 indoor season, the Texas native became the first Davidson female athlete to become an Atlantic 10 Champion in the 400-meters and ran on the silver-medal-winning 4x400 relay team.
In the classroom, Horowitz has made it on the last three A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll lists and was the Vice President and Publicity Chair of the Davidson College Planned Parenthood Generation Action (PPGA) from May through December of 2022. She also conducts research with an ongoing collaborative research project conducted by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Mbarara University of Science and Technology.
Horowitz will continue her graduate studies at George Washington where she will pursue her master's degree in public health with a concentration in Global Health Epidemiology and Disease Control. Upon graduation, she aspires to become an infectious disease doctor with a specialty in maternal and reproductive health.
