
Garrett and ‘Cats in Contention at Cleveland Golf Palmetto

AIKEN, S.C. – Highlighted by an opening round five-under 65, Brian Garrett and the Davidson (+2) men's golf team are within striking distance following 36 holes of The Cleveland Golf Palmetto.
Hosted by the University of South Carolina Aiken, the two-day event is being played on the Par 70, 6,617-yard Palmetto Golf Club layout.
A senior from San Antonio, Texas, Garrett (65-72 = 137 | T-7th) was six-under after 12 holes this morning and alone atop the individual leaderboard after signing for a personal-best. He'll enter Tuesday's final round three off the pace in a tie for seventh following a 72 in round two.
Alex Heffner, the 2022 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, is three back of his teammate in a tie for 13th thanks to consecutive even-par rounds of 70.
Davidson's Joshua Stewart (72-69 = 141 | T-17th) fired the team's lowest round in the afternoon with a one-under 69, also sits in the Top-20.
Will Davis (72-72 = 144 | T-29th) and Ethan Hall (79-76 = 155 | T-68th) are also in the Wildcats' starting lineup.
As a team, Davidson fired a one-under 279 this morning and currently sits tied for fourth with conference-foe VCU at 562 (279-283), nine strokes off the team lead held by South Carolina.
Mercer's Tobias Johnson and Cameron Huss of Wisconsin will share the overnight lead at six-under par.
