Marshall, 'Cats Excel at Weems Baskin Invitational

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Kierra Marshall set two new personal best times to lead the Davidson women's track team at the Weems Baskin Invitational hosted by South Carolina on Friday and Saturday. Overall, the Wildcats turned in three new PR's and seven individual top-10 finishes.
Marshall, a junior from Rockville, Md., competed in both the 100-meter invite and the 200 meters and set new personal-best times in each event. Marshall took tenth in the 100-meter invite with a new personal record time of 12.11, and she also set a new personal-best in the 200 meters with a time of 24.40. Both times put Marshall atop the Atlantic 10 on the Outdoor Performance list coming into the weekend.
Isabella Darce also recorded a new personal record and took first in the 800 meters. Darce ran a time of 2:18.51 to break her previous best time 2:22.31.
In the 800-meter invite, Kelsey Troutman turned in a top-five run. Troutman crossed the line in 2:15.35 to grab a fourth-place finish, and she currently ranks sixth in the A-10. Liz Simms also finished within the top-ten with a ninth-place finish in a time of 2:19.14.
Rachel Horowitz took sixth place in the 400-meter invite after she ran a 55.90. This time puts Horowitz third in the conference in her respective event.
Rounding out the top finishes were Abigail Nasse, Kate Carnevale, and Annica Valmassei. Nasse finished seventh in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:21.83, and Valmassei finished tenth in the pole vault after clearing the bar at 3.10 meters. Carnevale boosted her rankings within the A-10 in both the 100 and 200 meters. The senior took eighth in the 100 meters with a 12.31 which ranks tied for third best in the conference, and she also ran a 25.04 in the 200 to put her sixth in the A-10.
After the weekend, the Wildcats have nine individuals inside the top-ten on the A-10 Performance List.
The women's track team will look to maintain their momentum at High Point's Vertklasse Meet next weekend on Friday and Saturday.
