Davidson Drops Conference Opener at Rhode Island

KINGSTON, R.I. – The Davidson women's tennis team fell 4-1 to the Rhode Island Rams in the conference opener on Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats (4-9, 0-1 A-10) were the first on the board after winning the top two doubles matches by the score of 6-2. Daniela Porges and Kavya Patel earned the victory in the No. 1 spot while Franny Shea and Emma Heiderscheit won the No. 2 pairing. Porges and Patel moved to 7-3 as a duo on the season while Shea and Heiderscheit moved to .500 at 6-6.
Rhode Island (5-9, 1-0 A-10) stormed back by winning four singles matches to earn the conference victory. Patel fought hard in the No. 3 singles match when she forced a third set. After dropping the first set, Patel answered with a 6-1 win to tie the match at one set apiece. Her opponent took the third set, 10-7, to get the nod.
The 'Cats will be back on the court tomorrow with another A-10 match against UMass at 10:30 a.m.
