Hurdlers Pace Wildcats at Weems Baskin Invitational

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Davidson men's track and field team were led by Jayden Smith at South Carolina's Weems Baskin Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The Wildcats had five top-ten finishes, four in hurdle events.
Smith picked up where he left off during the indoor season and excelled in both the 110-meter hurdles and the 200 meters. The Richmond, Va. native finished second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.83. This time put the sophomore comfortably in the top spot amongst Atlantic 10 competitors. In the 200, Smith finished with a time of 21.88 which ranks him sixth-fastest in the conference.
Also turning in solid performances in the 110-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles were Bryce Anthony, Isaac Bynum, and Jordan Benson. Anthony and Bynum each turned in top-five finishes in the 400H as Anthony took third with a mark of 53.53 while Bynum finished fifth with a 54.88. With Saturday's times, Anthony and Bynum rank second and fourth in the A-10 respectively. Freshman Lukas Valley also posted a top-10 A-10 time at 59.10, good for tenth in the league.
Jordan Benson finished slightly behind Smith in the 110-meter hurdles after posting a 14.47. This gives Benson the second-fastest time in the A-10.
Nick Tompkins came home with a top-10 finish for the Wildcats in the high jump. Tompkins set a new career-high with a jump of 1.98 meters which was good for seventh in the event. Tompkins currently sits at 6th in the A-10.
In throws, Jack Stajos recorded a toss of 13.49 meters which put him inside the top-10 in the conference in both the shot put (8th) and discus (3rd).
Coming out of this weekend's meet, Davidson has 15 individuals that rank inside the top-10 on the Atlantic 10 Performance List.
The Wildcats will next set their sights on High Point's Vertklasse Meet on Friday and Saturday.
