DAVIDSON — Freshman right-hander Brycen Champey turned in a solid start and Wildcat batters hit early and often in a 12-2 win over Marist Sunday afternoon at Wilson Field.
The Wildcats improved to 9-10 with their second series win of the season and their third victory in the last four games. Sunday's result was finalized after Marist batted in the seventh because of an agreed-upon 10-run mercy rule.
Anthony Torreso, Michael O'Shaughnessy and Jack Cotrone homered for the Wildcats, while Jacob Hinderleider drove in a game-high four runs, including the first two on a single to center in the first inning. Cotrone followed with an RBI-double before Torreso went deep with a three-run shot to right field. The freshman's second home run made it 6-0 after an inning.
Starting for the third time, Champey (2-2) threw five innings, allowed three hits, walked two and struck out five. Both Marist runs were unearned.
Danny Rosenfield and Ed Hall pitched 1-2-3 innings in the sixth and seventh, respectively, to end it.
O'Shaughnessy's two-run homer, his fifth, made it 8-1 in the second, before Hinderleider plated two more runs on a double in the fourth to make it 10-2. Cotrone (7 HRs) then homered for the second straight game to drive in Hinderleider and make it 12-2.
Nick Calero, O'Shaughnessy, Hinderleider and Cotrone all finished with multiple hits.
