
'Cats Begin Outdoor Season at 49er Classic

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Davidson women's track and field team turned in seven top-10 finishes at UNC Charlotte's 49er Classic to open the outdoor season this weekend.
Three of the Wildcats' top finishes came in the pole vault. Junior Meghan Burkholder led the 'Cats with a fourth-place finish after a successful run at 3.60 meters. This mark puts Burkholder atop the A-10 on the Outdoor Performance List. Molly O'Brien took seventh when she cleared the bar at 3.45 meters, and Annica Valmassei finished right behind her in seventh after clearing the mark at 3.00 meters.
Sophomore Sophia Hood came home with Davidson's top individual finish on the weekend after she ran her second-fastest time in the 400 meters at 57.32. This time was good for second place at the meet and ranks second on the A-10 Outdoor Performance list.
Senior Kelsey Troutman was the lone Wildcat to run a new personal-best and finish inside the top-five. Troutman set a new PR in the 800 meters when she crossed the line in 2:14.43 for a fifth-place finish. This time ranks fifth on the A-10 Performance list.
Kierra Marshall and Rachel Horowitz rounded out the top-10 finishes for Davidson both in the 200 meters. Marshall finished seventh with a mark of 24.92 (ranks 4th on the A-10 Outdoor Performance list), and Horowitz took tenth after posting a 25.17.
The women's track and field team will run again next weekend at NC State's Raleigh Relays and South Carolina's Weems Baskin Invitational.
