Piechnick-led Wildcats Putting in the Work This Spring

Davidson women's soccer coach Riley Piechnick has been on the job just more than a month, and she has hit the ground running, implementing her vision for the Wildcats program.
"We started spring training right at the jump," says Piechnick, who came to Davidson after most recently serving as associate head coach at Bucknell. "For me, the spring season is all about individual development and starting to build a foundation of what Davidson women's soccer is all about. The sessions have been high-paced and competitive, with a lot of game-like scenarios to build comfortability in pressure situations. The team has been very receptive of my coaching style so far and has been working incredibly hard, which is very encouraging."
Along with their individual and team workouts, the Wildcats have a full slate of spring games to navigate and the second of those games — and the first at home — is this weekend when the Wildcats host High Point Saturday at 2 p.m. at Alumni Stadium.
It's the first of three home dates this spring, also including Saturday March 25 (vs. Lenoir-Rhyne, Queens) and Saturday, April 1 (vs. Winthrop, Elon). All home games are free and open to the public.
Saturday will also include the team banquet for the 2022-23 team, and on Saturday, April 22, the Wildcats will host an alumni game.
The focus now, though, is on daily individual and collective improvements as the calendar builds toward the 2023 fall season.
"We play against some high-caliber opponents this spring that I know will challenge us," says Piechnick. "Each game will be a great opportunity for us to play, evaluate and learn from to get better this semester. I am so excited about this group and the 2023 fall season, but we know that the preparation for that starts now."
