COLUMBIA, S.C. – Senior Dylan Ameres set a new indoor school record and took first place in the triple jump, and Jayden Smith finished third in the 60-meter hurdles to highlight a successful weekend at the South Carolina Invitational.
Ameres, a Quogue, N.Y. native, turned in his best performance of his indoor career on Saturday as he shattered the school record and took first place in the triple jump. Ameres recorded a jump of 14.56 meters to break the previous indoor record of 14.36 set by Jack Curtin earlier this season. It was also his first career first-place finish in the event.
Jayden Smith continued to shine as he grabbed third place in the 60-meter hurdles on Friday. Smith was coming off a first-place finish at the John Thomas Terrier Classic last weekend where he ran a time of 7.82 and set the school record two weekends ago at South Carolina with a 7.78. On Friday, Smith ran a 7.81 and once again finished inside the top-three. The St. Christopher's School product currently sits atop the A-10 performance list.
In the 5,000 meters, sophomore Nathan Stewart set a new personal best mark as he finished in 15:03.83. This smashed his previous-best mark by over a minute.
The men's track and field team will run again next weekend at Boston University's David Hemery Valentine Invitational.
