Burkholder and Kanjian Medal On First Day of A-10 Indoor Championships

KINGSTON, R.I. – Meghan Burkholder and Hannah Kanjian both medaled on the first day of the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships on Saturday. Both took third place while four Wildcats qualified for Sunday's finals, and six athletes ran personal-best times.
Burkholder, a junior from Cozad, Nebraska, finished third in the pole vault after she cleared the bar at 3.67 meters. It was the second consecutive year Burkholder earned a medal at the A-10 Indoor Championship.
In the pentathlon, Hannah Kanjian earned a third place medal after she accumulated 3,485 points, the second most of her career. The Jupiter, Florida native broke the school record and finished second in the 60-meter hurdles, third in the 800 meters, fifth in the shot put, sixth in the high jump, and sixth in the long jump to earn her first career indoor medal.
In the preliminaries, four Wildcats earned a spot to run in Sunday's finals. Kierra Marshall ran a 25-flat in the 200 meters, the fourth fastest in the prelims, to secure a spot in Sunday's final event.
Rachel Horowitz clocked the fastest time in the 400 meter prelims when she crossed the line in 57.37, Aleia Gisolfi-McCready qualified for the 500 meter final when she finished with top-six time of 1:16.90, and Breila Fuller registered inside the top-eight in the 1,000 meters to punch her ticket to Sunday.
Six Wildcats also turned in personal-best performances on Sunday including Kierra Marshall (7.78 sec.) and Kate Carnevale (7.88 sec.), both in the 60 meters. Sophia Hood ran a career-best time of 1:17.10 in the 500 while Alexandra Cisneros and Anna Catherine Wilson ran their best times in the 1,000 and 5,000 meters respectively.
Davidson ended the day fourth in the team points standings with 19 points while George Mason enters day two atop the leaderboard with 68 total points.
The Wildcats will look to finish strong as the Indoor Championships wrap up tomorrow beginning with field events at 9:00 a.m. and track events at 11:15 a.m.
