Carico Included on Golden Spikes Award Watch List

CARY — Davidson catcher Michael Carico has been named to the 2023 Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List, USA Baseball announced Friday afternoon.
A junior, Carico is one of 55 amateur players from high school and college baseball to be named to the list.
Last season, Carico led the country with a .559 on-base percentage and was the only catcher to receive the ABCA/Rawlings National Gold Glove Award, while also earning All-America honors from four media outlets. Davidson's first Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, he set single-season school records with the on-base mark, 21 home runs, an .843 slugging percentage, 71 runs scored, 43 extra-base hits, 166 total bases and 26 hit-by-pitches. From the leadoff spot, he hit .406 with a 1.402 OPS, 80 hits, 21 doubles and 57 RBIs.
It's been a busy lead-up to the season for Carico, who has been named a preseason All-American by Baseball America, D1Baseball, Collegiate Baseball, Perfect Game and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
Golden Spikes Award semifinalists will be named in May, and the award will be presented in late June.
