Wildcats Overtake Camels for Third Straight Win
12/6/2023 9:43:00 PM | Men's Basketball
DAVIDSON — Improved second-half shooting and some key plays from guards Grant Huffman and Bobby Durkin helped the Davidson Wildcats overtake Campbell 62-50 Wednesday night in Belk Arena.
It's the third straight win for the Wildcats, who improved to 6-3.
Davidson shot 50 percent (13-of-26) after halftime, nearly twice what it did in the first 20 minutes, and took its first lead of the night on a Sean Logan layup with 14:36 to play. Then Huffman drove for an emphatic dunk to put the Wildcats ahead 36-35 and for good with 10:41 to play.
The Wildcats still had work to do, however, and a 7-0 run, consisting of two Reed Bailey free throws, a Connor Kochera drive and finish and a Huffman-to-Durkin 3-pointer, got them separation.
Davidson shot 13-of-15 at the line in the final 9:59 to close it out.
Durkin scored a team-high 13 points, while Huffman, Bailey and Kochera scored 11 apiece.
A 9-0 run late in the first half, comprised of two treys from Hunter Adam and one from Durkin, helped the Wildcats overcome some offensive struggles and stay within reach, down 25-21, at the half.
Led by Durkin's eight boards, the Wildcats won the rebounding battle 42-35. And Durkin and Adam sparked a bench-scoring effort that held a 23-7 advantage.
Anthony Dell'Orso led Campbell (3-6) with 16 points and helped the Camels race to an 11-2 lead in the opening minutes.
