Wildcats Shatter Multiple Personal Records on Opening Day of Indoor

BOSTON, Mass. / WINTSON-SALEM, N.C. – Highlighted by a number of personal records, the Davidson women's track & field team opened their 2023-24 indoor season at a pair of events Saturday.
In Boston at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener, sprinters Kierra Marshall (200m) and Sophia Hood (400m) recorded Top-3 finishes in their respective events. Marshall finished runner-up with a time of 25.39, while Hood set a new personal-best with a time of 57.15 to place third.
On the distance side, both Anne Berquist (9:51) and Molly Sullivan (10:10) broke their previous records in the 3K, while Frances Whitworth shattered her best-ever time in the 5000 with a 16:39.5, which is also a Top-5 mark in program history.
Just up the road in Winston-Salem, 11 Wildcats took part in the annual College Kickoff at the JDL Fast Track.
Competing for the first time in the 60m hurdles, junior Aleia Gisolfi-McCready just missed breaking the school record with a time of 8.93.
In field events, Hannah Casey came home 10th out of 49 competitors with a personal-best of 5.29m in the long jump. Freshman Maureen Cavanaugh, who competed in multiple events in her collegiate debut, set a new PR in the shot put with a mark of 11.02m.

Davidson will resume its indoor slate after the New Year when it travels to Columbia, S.C., for the Carolina Challenge Jan. 19-20.
