BOSTON, Mass. – The Davidson men's track and field team had a record-setting day at Boston University's John Thomas Terrier Classic on Friday. Jayden Smith took home first place in the 60-meter hurdles, Bryce Anthony broke the school record and took second in the 500 meters, and Joe dosReis snapped the program record in the mile.
In the first track event of the day, the 60-meter hurdles prelims, Jordan Benson ran the fastest qualifying time with a 7.96. Teammates Jayden Smith and Isaac Bynum snagged the third and fourth fastest times to qualify for the final later in the afternoon. In the finals, Smith cruised to a first-place finish by posting a time of 7.82. Bynum took third place and set new a personal-best time of 8.04.
Smith also posted a personal-best time in the 200 meters by running a 22-flat. This was good for a top-ten finish.
Later in the meet, senior Bryce Anthony competed in the 500-meters for the first time in his Davidson career and broke the school record. Anthony posted a time of 1:03.68 to snap Garrett Nickelson's record from 2017 which was good for second place.
Another Wildcat to turn in a record-breaking performance was senior Joe dosReis. The Smithfield, R.I. native followed up his historic weekend last week by shattering the Davidson record in the mile. dosReis became the first-ever Wildcat to post a sub-four-minute mile with a time of 3:58.34.
To round out the day for the 'Cats, Jordan Benson took third in the high jump by clearing the bar at 1.90 meters, Jack Curtin took third in the triple jump with a leap of 14.06 meters, and Dylan Ameres finished fifth in the triple jump with a 13.95.
"It's an amazing opportunity for us to come up to Boston and race on what may be the best track in the world, and the guys took full advantage of the opportunity," said head coach Renny Waldron. "It was great to see the school records fall, and awesome for Joe to get under four for the first time. He has put in great work and is so determined, and he deserves all of his success, as do all of the guys. We are where we need to be at this time of the season, and we're looking forward to progressing leading up to the conference championship in a month."
