After playing two games on the road, the Davidson field hockey team will host two games at Belk Turf Field this weekend, beginning with a 6 p.m. Friday contest against No. 21 William & Mary.
The Wildcats, who also host Longwood Sunday afternoon, are 3-1 with wins over Georgetown, Towson and Queens and a 1-0 loss at Ohio last Sunday.
"This season has started out really strong for us, with every person on the team playing a vital role for our group's success," said coach Zoe Almquist. "We've emphasized working hard, staying positive, attention to details and putting team before self, and many of those things are showing in our play so far.
"Looking ahead to the weekend we have two great opponents and two great opportunities to defend our home turf. We've been working really hard on our transition game this week as well as keeping our defensive shape structured and team-oriented. I can't wait to see that work in action Friday and Sunday."
Anna Sharp and Natalie Naticchia lead the Wildcats with three goals apiece, while freshman Sib Naaktgeboren has a team-high five assists.
Keeper Genna Barge has allowed four goals in 240 minutes for a 1.00 goals against average. She's made 19 saves at an .826 saves percentage.
SCOUTING THE TRIBE
William & Mary entered the National Field Hockey Coaches Association rankings this week after toppling 2021 national runner-up Liberty 1-0 in overtime last Sunday.
The difference against the then-No. 6 Flames was a penalty stroke by Ireland Miller, while keeper Maddie George recorded a career-best 12 saves to earn NFHCA Defensive Player of the Week honors.
All three of William and Mary's wins have come in overtime, as the Tribe prevailed 3-2 over nationally ranked Old Dominion and 1-0 over VCU. The Tribe's lone loss was 3-1 to Richmond Sept. 2.
