Coming off a program-best 43-win season, the Davidson baseball team will open fall practice Friday afternoon at Wilson Field.
The Wildcats, who won last spring's Atlantic 10 Conference regular season title, will have 27 team practices and three fall games and conclude the six-week fall session on Nov. 6.
"Collectively, the guys came back in good shape," says coach Rucker Taylor, who has led the Wildcats to a 112-62 record in four seasons. "In the time we've been back, I've seen progress in the group. Some individuals have taken steps and are growing well into new roles. The work ethic of this group is something that continues to impress, and we're looking forward to the fall as a chance to improve individually and as a group."
Fall Games
The Wildcats will play their first two fall contests at Wilson Field, then travel to Atrium Health Ballpark in Kannapolis for the third.
• Friday, Sept. 30: vs. Ontario Blue Jays, 5 p.m.
• Saturday, Oct. 22: vs. Erskine, 1 p.m.
• Sunday, Oct. 30: vs. Queens (at Kannapolis), 12 p.m.
Returning Headliners
All-American catcher Michael Carico, a Rawlings Gold Glove recipient and the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, returns for his junior season after hitting .406 and a program-record 21 home runs and posting a national-best .559 on-base percentage.
First baseman Ryan Wilson (.366 average, 18 steals, 56 RBIs) and shortstop Jacob Hinderleider (.336 average, 12 home runs, 56 RBIs) also return after receiving A-10 Second Team honors.
On the mound, lefthander Ryan Feczko is back after earning A-10 Rookie of the Year honors with a 3.21 ERA and a 10-0 record. And Bennett Flynn returns after posting a 1.41 ERA, 3-1 record and six saves as an A-10 Second Team reliever.
Roster Additions
The Wildcats have added two transfers, Nick Calero and Miles Jamieson, to the roster, along with seven freshmen: Will Banks, Brycen Champey, Ed Hall, Henry Hultquist, Michael O'Shaughnessy, Aidan Rice and Anthony Torreso.
Matthew Kinney and Todd Miller recently joined the coaching staff.
