Davidson catcher Michael Carico has been named to the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-American Second Team, the ABCA announced Friday.
The All-America honor is the second for the sophomore from Kernersville, after he also earned Second Team All-American distinction from Collegiate Baseball.
"Mike had an incredible season," said Davidson coach Rucker Taylor. "His numbers show that, and his impact on each game, our season and program go well beyond the numbers. He is an outstanding person, teammate and representative of Davidson College and our baseball program. We are thrilled Mike is getting this recognition."
Davidson's first Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Year, Carico is the first Wildcat to secure ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors since outfielder Will Robertson was named to the Third Team in 2017. He just completed a breakthrough season for the Wildcats, helping them to a program-best 43-13 record and the program's first outright regular-season conference title.
Among many statistical highlights, Carico led the nation with a .559 on-base percentage, hit .406, slugged .843 and set the Davidson single-season mark with an A-10 leading 21 home runs. He also set single-season school records with 71 runs scored, 43 extra-base hits, 166 total bases, 26 hit-by-pitches and with the on-base and slugging percentages.
Among other postseason honors, Carico was named a finalist for the Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award, is a finalist for the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher Award and earned ABCA/Rawlings All-Atlantic Region recognition.
