RICHMOND, Va. - The Davidson men's track and field team placed third overall after the 4x400 relay team repeated as Atlantic 10 Championships at the conference outdoor tournament, hosted by VCU at the Sports Backers Stadium. The relay team of Bryce Anthony, Isaac Bynum, Cory Gaither and Josh Hardin finished with a time of 3:15.72, giving them first place en route to a team overall third place finish.
The 'Cats finished with 122 points - the highest finish and most points scored at a outdoor track & field championship in Davidson history.
"The team competed hard from the first event to the last," Director of Men's Cross Country and Track & Field Renny Waldron said. "It's been a joy for us to see this special group of guys accomplish so much this year and have them see all of their hard work and determination come to fruition."
The 4x800 relay team of Raphael Oettl, Noah Floyd, Owen Drometer and Joe dosReis finished in second. Other podium finishes included the sweep of the 110m hurdles with the 'Cats owning the best four times of the day. Jayden Smith, Bryce Anthony and Jordan Benson went 1-2-3 for Davidson with Cory Gaither coming in behind them. Gaither and Anthony also went 1-2 in the 400m hurdles.
Hardin found himself on the podium a total of three times - once for the relay, a third place finish in the 200m and atop the standings in the 400m.
FROM COACH WALDRON...
On the 110 hurdlers going 1-4 and 1,2 and 4 in the 400H...
"The hurdle squad has been a rock all year long and has continually pushed themselves and the entire team to another level. To go 1-4 in the 110H is a special achievement, and I can't recall that ever being done in the Atlantic-10 since we have been in the conference. They deserve all the praise!"
On the 4x400...
"The 4x400 is the heart and soul of a track and field team. To win back-to-back 4x400 titles is an amazing achievement and speaks to resilience and toughness of our track and field team."
On the seniors...
"It's been an amazing four years for our seniors, and they have been a huge part of our growth as a program. We are so proud of them; it's going to be very tough to replicate what they have brought to our program. We are going to miss their leadership next year, but they have left the program in a great place."
