NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Davidson outfielder Trevor Candelaria has been named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
The honor is the second of his career and first this season, and he's the third Wildcat to be named Player of the Week this year, joining Ryan Wilson (3) and Michael Carico (2).
"Trevor made some nice plays defensively this week and had some great at-bats throughout the week and really this whole season," said Davidson coach Rucker Taylor. "He's played at a high level throughout and has been a huge part of our success."
The senior from Durango, Colo., hit .571 (8-for-14) this past week, with two hits in each contest, while posting a 1.843 OPS (.700 on-base, 1.143 slugging). That included hitting .600 (6-for-10) as the first-place Wildcats took two of three games at A-10 foe Saint Louis over the weekend. Against the Billikens, Candelaria hit two doubles, a triple and a home run and drove in three runs.
An A-10 First Team pick last season, Candelaria has been a picture of consistency for the Wildcats this season, hitting in the second spot in the order. He leads Davidson with 22 multi-hit games (in 42 games) and 15 multi-RBI games. He's hitting .358 with 14 doubles, two triples and eight home runs and leads the team with 44 RBIs. He's tied for the team lead with 63 hits, has scored 47 runs, stolen eight bases and totaled 105 total bases.
Candelaria and the Wildcats (33-9) will host Winthrop Wednesday night in non-conference play.
