NEWPORT NEWS, VA. — After one of the most successful regular seasons in program history, the Davidson lacrosse program saw seven of its Wildcats named to Atlantic 10 All-Conference teams, the league office announced Wednesday.
Junior attacker Erin Cooke, sophomore defender Noelle Cegielski and junior goalkeeper Amanda Monahan all earned First Team honors, while seniors Gianna New and Emma Johnson were named to the Second Team. Freshman midfielder, and one of Davidson's leading draw takers, Riley Moore was named to the All-Rookie squad, while senior Lauren Arkell rounded out the awards with an All-Academic nod.
Davidson's top tier offense, which ranks 11th in the nation in assists per game (7.5) and second in free position shot percentage (.549), has been led by the steady play of Cooke, New and Johnson. As a Second Team All-Conference attacker last season, Cooke made her way onto the First Team during her junior campaign, after leading the A-10 with 36 total assists and 2.25 assists per game, while ranking in the top-15 nationally in both categories. New earned the second postseason honor of her career with a spot on the Second Team, after an incredible season which saw the senior captain eclipse the 100-goal mark while being second in the A-10 in total goals (47) and fifth in points per game (3.5). As one of Davidson's strongest midfielders, Johnson captured the first league honors of her tenure after recording a career-best, 19 goals, eight assists and 27 points this season.
Cegielski and Monahan have anchored Davidson's defense during the 2022 campaign, as the sophomore defender captured her first First Team honor after an All-Rookie splash in 2021, while Monahan was named the league's First Team goalkeeper. The duo has led the Wildcats' backfield to a scoring defense ranking of 10.56, good for 22nd nationally, while Cegielski averages 1.19 caused turnovers per game. In cage, Monahan has captured 11 of Davidson's 12 wins this season, matching the program-record for most wins in a single season, and holds a save percentage of .502, which ranks second in the A-10 and eighth in the nation.
As a rookie, Moore has been a key piece to the Wildcats' draw control, grabbing 45 draws in her debut season. The New York native scored the first goal of her collegiate career on a fast break against No. 19/20 Richmond, where she also grabbed a career-high six draw controls.
Arkell closed out the postseason honors for the 'Cats, as the New Hampshire native has had a career-best season en route to the first A-10 postseason award of her career. The senior ranks top-7 in the Atlantic 10 in total assists (19) and just outside the top-100 nationally in assists per game (1.19 apg) while also scoring a career-high 14 goals and 33 points in her final season. On campus, Arkell is also a part of the Women in Physics club and Society of Physics Students.
Davidson has more of its season left to play, as the 'Cats will open up the 2022 A-10 Championship tomorrow at 11 a.m. against Duquesne.
