NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Davidson pitcher Bennett Flynn is this week's Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
Flynn, a junior right-hander, threw 7.1 scoreless innings and earned two wins over the past week, as the Wildcats went 3-1 and stayed out front in the A-10 standings. He's the third Wildcat to be named Pitcher of the Week this year, joining Blake Hely (3/1) and Nolan DeVos (3/8, 3/16).
"Bennett has been really good all year," said Davidson coach Rucker Taylor. "This week he was able to give us not just a bunch of outs, but really gave us a chance to get momentum in two games and was a steadying force in both. He's put in a lot of work, and it's great to see him get recognition for it."
Most recently, Flynn came out of the bullpen to toss five innings in Sunday's 9-5 win over A-10 foe Rhode Island and shut down the Rams, allowing four hits and striking out eight. In the midweek win over Winthrop, he threw 2.1 hitless innings and struck out five.
For the year, Flynn is 3-1 with a 1.32 ERA and three saves in 16 appearances, covering 27.1 innings. He's struck out 47 while walking 12 and has held opposing hitters to a .156 average.
Flynn and the Wildcats will travel to Boone Tuesday to face Appalachian State.
