FORT WORTH, Texas — Davidson sophomore catcher Michael Carico has been added to the midseason watch list for the Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award, it was announced today.
The award, sponsored by the Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation, recognizes offensive performance, academics and personal integrity. Carico is one of 14 players added to the watch list at midseason, bringing the total to 58 Division I players.
Entering the weekend, Carico leads the Atlantic 10 Conference and ranks second nationally with a .576 on-base percentage. He's also the league leader with a .424 average (8th nationally), an .824 slugging percentage (4th nationally), 19 hit-by-pitches (3rd nationally) and 83 total bases. He's leading the Wildcats with 11 home runs, 15 doubles and 36 RBIs and has also drawn 26 walks and scored 40 runs.
"The Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award (BBCSA) Selection Committee's job of determining the winner this year will be a challenge moving forward," said Tracy Taylor, Executive Director of the Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation. "The 14 additions to this year's list join the deepest group of college hitters we have ever had and make the list even more formidable."
Award finalists will be named in May, and the winner will be announced in June and honored at a fall gala. Texas Tech's Hunter Hargrove won the initial BBCSA in 2017, followed by Dallas Baptist's Devlin Granberg (2018), Texas Tech's Josh Jung (2019) and East Carolina's Connor Norby (2021).
Bobby Bragan, a former major league player, manager and coach, established his foundation in 1991 to encourage children to stay in school and pursue their educational and career dreams.
