Football "Lift for Life" Set for April 29

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Davidson Football is partnering with the Davidson Chapter of Uplifting Athletes and will partake in their second "Lift For Life" to inspire and support the Rare Disease Community on April 29. The 2022 Davidson Chapter Lift For Life will feature a 225-pound bench press competition between the Wildcats nine position groups.
Lift For Life is the signature awareness and fundraising event for the Davidson Chapter of Uplifting Athletes. Davidson football is a part of a network of collegiate chapters led by student-athletes. Each chapter embraces the mission of Uplifting Athletes by using their platform to inspire the Rare Disease Community with hope through the power of sport.
"After attending the Young Investigator Draft earlier this year in Philadelphia, I was able to directly see the impact the money raised has on research and the Rare Disease Community," Davidson Chapter President and football scholar-athlete Storm Monroe said. "We are even more excited to hold our annual Lift For Life event to get back to raising money for this special community of people."
Fans, family and friends can choose to support any one of the nine position groups and pledge for the number of bench press repetitions they average during the event by selecting a player or position group by visiting pledgeit.org/davidsonlift22. It is also possible to contribute a flat donation to either team. Proceeds from the 2022 Davidson Chapter Lift For Life support Uplifting Athletes and its commitment to create Uplifting Leaders, fund Rare Disease Research, engage in Uplifting Experiences, and expand Rare Disease Awareness.
Davidson football is also committed to being leaders in the fight for social justice through our P.A.C.E (Progress, Advocate, Cooperate, Educate) initiative. We know more diversity in healthcare means safer, healthier, and stronger communities. African Americans make up 13 percent of the U.S. population, yet only 4 percent of U.S. medical doctors are Black/African American. The Hispanic and Latino population account for 17 percent of the U.S. population but only 0.4 percent of U.S. medical doctors. Funds from this Lift For Life will help support Uplifting Athletes' Underrepresented Minority Research Grant focused on influencing inclusion in medicine.
Today, the challenges faced by the Rare Disease Community are bigger than any one individual, team or organization can tackle alone. The Davidson Chapter is uniquely positioned to raise awareness and engage the local community to shine a spotlight on rare diseases. Co-founded by former Wildcats George Hatalowich and Kevin Stipe IN 2017, the duo was inspired by their own individual connections to the rare disease cause and made supporting the Rare Disease Community for the Davidson football program a priority.
Uplifting Athletes aims to inspire the Rare Disease Community with hope through the power of sport. The nonprofit organization engages student and professional athletes in realizing the impact of using their own powerful platforms to give voice to the 30 million Americans diagnosed with rare diseases. With the support of 26 collegiate chapters led by student-athletes, including 25 men's football teams and one women's soccer team, and more than 80 ambassadors from across America's professional sports leagues, including representatives from the National Football League (NFL) and Major League Baseball (MLB), Uplifting Athletes has raised more than $5 million toward its mission since it was established in 2007. Programs include Rare Disease Awareness, Rare Disease Research, Uplifting Leaders and Uplifting Experiences, with several signature initiatives falling under these banners.
