Davidson Wrestling Concludes Season at SoCon Tournament

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson wrestling finished out the 2021-22 season at the Southern Conference Tournament, hosted by Appalachian State in Boone, N.C. inside Holmes Convocation Center.
The Wildcats' performance was highlighted by No. 4 seeds Kyle Gorant and Mitchell Trigg first round wins in the 133-pound and HWT weight classes, respectively.
Gorant advanced by fall over Domenic Zaccone of Campbell at 6:55. The senior dropped his semifinal bout to Brayden Palmer of Chattanooga before moving to face Garder-Webb's Todd Carter in the consolation bracket. Carter walked away with a 7-5 decision to end Gorant's day.
Trigg defeated Peyton McComas of Gardner-Webb in a revenge match in an 8-2 decision. He advanced to face Taye Ghadiali of Campbell and was pinned at 37 seconds to move him to the consolation bracket. Trigg advanced again on a 6-4 decision over Josh Evans of VMI to the third-place match before falling to Michael Burchell of App State.
Bryce Sanderlin registered a 1-2 finish at the tournament, defeating Presby's Michael Ramirez in a 10-0 MD. He fell to JoJo Aragona of Campbell to finish the day.
After dropping his first-round match, Gavin Henry also went 1-2 on the day, dominating his first consolation round match at 184, earning a 17-0 tech fall over Joel Diaz. His next opponent Thomas Sell from UTC caught him in a bad spot though, pinning him at 5:54.
Finlay Holston dropped his opening round match to Gardner-Webb's Anthony Perrine in a tight 3-1 decision. He advanced through his first consolation round due to a medical forfeit and fell to VMI's Tyler Mousaw by a 7-3 decision.
Four 'Cats - freshmen Hale Robinson (125) and Nick Cambria (141) along with sophomore Jaden Hardrick (165) and senior Lachlan Rosato (174) - dropped their first two matches of the tournament.
Davidson finished the regular season at 5-10 overall and 3-5 in the Southern Conference. The program graduated six seniors. The NCAA will release at-large bid announcements in the coming week.
