NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — For the second straight week, Davidson's Ryan Wilson is Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, the league office announced late Monday afternoon.
The team's primary first baseman and the nation's leader with a .622 on-base percentage, Wilson hit .571 for the week (8-for-14), with a team-high 1.882 OPS and two home runs as the Wildcats went 5-0 and improved to a program-best 17-3.
Wilson, who also played some right field this past week, homered in both games of the midweek doubleheader with William & Mary and also finished the week with two doubles, seven RBIs, nine runs scored, eight walks and three stolen bases.
"This is another nice recognition of Ryan and his performance this past week," said Davidson coach Rucker Taylor. "He's been a big part of our success this season with offensive output and his defensive versatility."
Through 20 games, Wilson ranks third nationally with 23 walks (first in the A-10) and first in the A-10 with 25 runs scored. He leads Davidson with a .458 average (13th nationally) and 10 stolen bases and also has six doubles, four home runs, 21 RBIs and a .763 slugging percentage.
This marks the fourth straight week at least one Wildcat has been honored by the A-10. On March 1, catcher Michael Carico earned Player of the Week honors, while Blake Hely was Pitcher of the Week. Nolan DeVos earned Pitcher of the Week recognition the last two weeks.
Wilson and the Wildcats will meet cross-county rival Charlotte Wednesday night at Truist Field, home of the Triple-A Charlotte Knights.
