DAVIDSON, N.C. - Chibuike "ChiChi" Odo has been named a 2022 Thomas J. Watson Fellow, announced by the organization on Tuesday. The scholar-athlete was one of three Davidson students to earn the prestigious grant along with Ellie Lipp and Luis Cordero.
Odo, also a Allstate AFCA Good Works Team member, will use the grant to pursue the mental health of elite athletes in Kenya, The United Kingdom, Australia and China. The McKinney, Texas native will focus on how mental health initiatives are integrated into national individual and team sports.
"We are incredibly proud and excited that ChiChi has been named a Watson Foundation Fellows," Davidson head football coach Scott Abell said. "He has had an incredible impact here at Davidson and specifically within our football community. Knowing he will have the opportunity to study, serve and have the same type of impact globally is an extraordinary opportunity.
"We would also like to extend our congratulations to Ellie Lipp and Luis Cordero, the other two Davidson students to receive this prestigious fellowship. It is simply amazing to see the type of scholars and scholar athletes graduating from Davidson ready to make an impact in our world."
The following qualities considered in the selection process are leadership, imagination, independence, emotional maturity, courage, integrity, resourcefulness and responsibility. The fellowship, started in 1968, provides a year of personal insight, perspective and confidence that shapes the arc of fellows' lives.
