Garrett Paces Wildcats on Day One of Forest Creek Collegiate

PINEHURST, N.C. — Behind a one-over 73 from Brian Garrett, Davidson sits in fifth place, just eight off the pace, following day one of the Forest Creek Collegiate.
The 36-hole / 11-team event is being played on the Par 72, 6925-yard Forest Creek Golf Club layout.
Garrett, an all-conference performer last season, made the turn in 37, before a birdie, seven straight pars and a bogey on his inward nine to finish the day tied for eighth.
Teammates Viraj Garewal and Alex Heffner are one back following rounds of 74, while Will Davis (77) and Ethan Hall are tied for 36th and 50th, respectively.
Dean Naime, who is competing as an individual for the Wildcats, opened with an 82.
As a team, Davidson sits in fifth place following a 298 (+10), eight shots behind UNCW (+2), which occupies the top spot on the leaderboard by two over VCU (+4).
Elon's Bronson Myers was just one of two golfers to shoot under par as he holds the individual lead at two-under.
Tomorrow's second and final round will begin at 11 a.m.
