BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Davidson wrestling dropped their dual at Campbell on Sunday afternoon and fell by an overall team score of 27-12. The 'Cats walked away with four wins in the 133, 149, 165 and HWT bouts.
Senior Kyle Gorant took a 2-1 lead in the second period with a takedown, earned an escape early in the third before securing a 5-1 lead with 15 seconds left in the match. With the riding time point, Gorant earned a 6-1 decision over Domenic Zaccone and had closed the team score to 6-3. With the first win of the day for Davidson at 133 pounds, the senior earned a weekend split, 1-1.
Sophomore Gavin Damasco went 2-0 on the weekend following his victory over his opponent from Campbell, Chris Rivera. Through a scoreless first period, Damasco worked to score an escape in the second and walk off the matt with a 2-0 win.
At 165, Jaden Hardrick took home the third win of the day with a 6-3 decision over Riley Augustine. Neither scored in the first period but Hardrick ended the second with three big points from a takedown and a stalling point and took a 3-2 lead. The sophomore sealed the deal with 10 seconds left in the third with a takedown and secured a 6-3 win with riding time.
Mitchell Trigg dominated through the heavyweight bouttaking a 3-0 lead into the second period before scoring a takedown and a riding point to walk away with a 6-0 decision and end the match on a high note for Davidson.
Bryce Sanderlin faced JoJo Aragona, a mid-season transfer from Rutgers in the 157-lb. bout. While down 10-4, Sanderlin fought back with two takedowns in the third to close the cap 12-8, but ultimately fell 13-8. Finlay Holston fought hard at 197 and maintained a 2-0 lead halfway through the second before Levi Hopkins was able to get the pin at 5:17.
