DAVIDSON, N.C. -- The Davidson volleyball team is set to meet North Dakota State on Friday afternoon in round one of the National Invitational Volleyball Championship, held on the campus of Wake Forest University.
First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. from inside Reynolds Gymnasium, with live statistics and ESPN+ coverage available.
POSTSEASON HISTORY
Friday will mark Davidson's third postseason appearance in program history. The NIVC invitation comes 22 years after Davidson's last postseason bid, when the Wildcats made it to the NCAA tournament in back-to-back seasons (1999 & 2000) after winning the Southern Conference Championship.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The 'Cats put together one of the best regular seasons in program history, going 20-9 overall and 14-4 in conference play for their most conference wins ever in the A-10 and most league victories since 2002. The 20-win season was also the first in two decades for the program, and the first of head coach Chris Willis' tenure. Davidson finished second in the league's regular season standings, and earned a first round bye at the A-10 Tournament before falling to Dayton in the semifinals.
ON NOTICE
Davidson collected three major awards from the Atlantic 10 this postseason, as Willis won Co-Coach of the Year and Bella Brady was named Libero of the Year, each for the second consecutive season, while freshman Emma Slusser was named Rookie of the Year.
GOLDEN SHOVEL
Brady was also named to the league's All-Conference First Team after ranking first in the A-10 in digs per set (5.24) and second in total digs (534). The junior captain eclipsed the 1,000th dig mark earlier this season, during the program's first-ever win over Dayton, and is now at 1,302 career digs, cracking into the program's top-10 all-time list.
ABOUT THE BISON
NDSU has assembled a 21-11 overall record this season and advanced to the Summit League semifinal round for the first time since 2018 before falling short against Omaha, 3-1. The Bison reached the 20-win mark for only the fifth time in the Division I era and first time under head coach Jennifer Lopez.
THE NIVC
The NIVC is an annual tournament involving 32 of the nation's top women's Division I Volleyball teams. All games, including the semifinals and championship, are hosted by participating schools. Every round is single elimination. Davidson will meet the Bison at 3 p.m. on Friday on the campus of Wake Forest University, while the Demon Deacons will square off against Coppin State at 6 p.m. The winner of each match will advance to round two, set to be played at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3.
